| Kite Control
(Level One)
Students learn basic kite control at this level. Utilizing a progressive range of kites they learn; equipment setup, safety systems, kite theory, steering, powerzones, safety protocols, launching, Landing, body drags, emergency stops and self rescue. The emphasis is on safety and technical information. Students should be able to demonstrate all the above skills to a competent standard. |
| Board Riding (Level Two)
Students learn powered flying skills, assisted & self launch, board techniques, waterstarts both sides, basic riding, speed control, self rescue, harnessed riding and solo landing. Students should be able to demonstrate all the skills in level one and the ones mentioned above. |
| Upwind Riding (Level Three)
Students learn a variety of safe launching techniques, board launching protocols, four-line theory, road rules, upwind riding skills, and powered transitions. Using directional and bi-directional boards. Students should be able to demonstrate all the skills in the previous levels plus the ones mentioned above. |
| Intermediate Riding (Level Four)
Students learn; upwind skills, basic wave riding, wave etiquette, jumping, highwind transitions, board recovery, multiple beach launching & solo landing skills, riding with the instructor. Students should meet all the requirements of the previous levels plus the skills mentioned above. |
| Advanced Riding
(Level Five)
Upwind & downwind wave riding, high jumps, looping and aerial transitions, rider rescue, downwind coast runs. Launching, landing & emergency self-rescue skills are tested. Students should meet all the requirements of the previous levels plus the skills mentioned above. |
| KISS Kitesurfing
Instructor Standards
Participants must be over 18. Instructors need to Understand and demonstrate correct equipment selection and setup, self launch, land independently, self-rescue, Ride upwind and be comfortable and safe riding close to other kiteboarders. They must be certified by a KISS Instructor Trainer. Registration fee of $18.00. They must log a minimum of ten hours teaching per year at a KISS Training Center. Instructors will need current CPR and First Aid certification to teach in most areas. |
| KISS Training
Center Standards
KISS schools must have adequate public liability insurance and operate with the permission of the local authorities. They must operate in a safe area away from hazards, excess boating traffic and have onshore or side shore winds. The KISS School must have a qualified KISS instructor. They must pay Initial registration fee of $125.00 and an annual fee of $50.00 US. |
| Kitesurfing
Level-one Instructor Course
The KISS level-one Instructor course is a one-week 25-hour comprehensive course to give an intensive experience for kitesurfing instructors. Upon completion of the course, instructors undergo a practical skills test and an Instruction test to obtain the Level-one Instructor Certification (cost $795.00). Airfare and accommodation packages to Maui are available. |
| Kitesurfing Level-two
Instructor Courses
The KISS L2 Instructor course has been upgraded to a two-week 40-hour comprehensive course to give a greater depth of experience for prospective kitesurfing instructors. Serious instructors from around the world come to Maui to attend a two week instructor certification at the KISS Instructor Training Center. The course covers kitesurfing equipment preparation and maintenance and kitesurfing skills including the KISS kitesurfing protocols and multiple lesson formats. Upon completion of the course, instructors undergo a practical skills test and an Instruction test to obtain the L2 Instructor Certification (cost $1475.00). Airfare and accommodation packages to Maui are available. |

Instructor Trainer Courses
The KISS Instructor Trainer course is open to experienced Kiteboarding Instructors. I.T. Trainees will have to assist a KISS Master I.T. to host and run a KISS Kiteboarding Instructor Certificate Course. Each trainee I.T. is assessed individually and must demonstrate extremely high degrees of kiteboarding knowledge and Kiteboarding ability. By Invitation or Nomination only. |
| KISS Kitesurfing
Instructor Trainer Standards
Participants must be over 21 and have, current Adult CPR and First Aid certification. Instructor Trainers must have been a certified KISS Instructor for at least one year. and attend an Instructor Trainer Course. They must be certified at the KISS Central Training Center. They must pay the annual registration fee of $25.00. They must log a minimum of 100 hours teaching per year at a KISS Training Center. |
| Retail
Experience Program
The RETAIL EXPERIENCE PROGRAM (RK1) is a condensed program of kite safety and handling skills. In this program our Instructor Trainers will come to your shop and give you and your employees the three-hour course. This program will help educate your retail staff, who will then present vital safety information to your customers. The aim of the RK1 program is that the retailer gives every kite purchaser a "Kite Safety Presentation (KS1)" so that each customer is informed about, risks, risk management, equipment operation, and assumption of liability. |
| Instructor Equivalency
The KISS recognizes the Instructor Certification of other systems. Instructors can apply for a KISS certification online on the KISS Join Page, The Instructor agrees to conduct their lessons according to the KISS safe teaching methods. Lapsed or older certifications should do a one-day Refresher course with any KISS (I.T.). Instructors wanting to gain equivalency should be well versed in the KISS levels, standards and lesson formats. KISS Teaching Manuals and Lesson notes are available. N.B. all KISS Instructors must be able to ride! |
